The Wipro story

Mohamed Hasham Premji founded ‘Western India Palm Refined Oil Limited’ in 1945, which was later abbreviated to Wipro Ltd. The company’s predecessor manufactured vegetable and refined oils in Maharashtra, British India before launching an initial public offering in 1946. Azim Premji took over the business 20 years after the death of his father.

The company changed its name to Wipro Products Ltd. in 1977. Wipro made its first IT venture in 1981 and finally renamed itself Wipro Ltd. in 1982. The group went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2000. A year later, Wipro won major recognition as the first Indian IT company with ISO 14001 certification.

The company topped the Asian Sustainability Rating of Indian companies for 2010 and joined two indices: the NASDAQ Global Sustainability Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Today, the business has expanded into a multinational IT and services provider with annual revenue of INR 585.8 billion in 2019.

The culture

IT and software jobs can induce high levels of stress for employees. Some departments may also observe the traditional ways of measuring productivity instead of an outcome-based approach. Management politics seem to be an issue as well, particularly for appraisal ratings.

However, employees still recognize Wipro as a good company for learning and career growth. The job schedules are flexible for certain roles, improving work-life balance for employees.

The vibe of the place

If you prioritize career growth and extensive learning over base pay for your first job, then Wipro can be a good match for your profile. Graduates may advance quickly with numerous opportunities for career progression. However, the workplace environment demands mentally strong individuals to survive in a customer-centric business.

Recruitment Process

Wipro’s hiring process includes an online test, technical round, and HR round for IT and software roles. The test involves an essay and a series of questions about quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal skills, basic programming, and computer fundamentals. The essay topic can also vary from abstract topics to current events.

You should expect to engage in a group discussion with the company before or after the online test. The technical round will test your knowledge of data structures, operating systems and networking technologies, and basic programming concepts. The HR round will measure your communication skills and self-confidence through the usual questions like your reason for application

Remuneration & Career Growth

The company provides candidates with seven career paths: business process service, consulting, corporate functions, digital, leadership, sales, and technology divisions. Career opportunities are also available to employees on the careers website, just in case anyone desires to apply for a higher position or a lateral move within the company.
