Brief History of Warner Bros

Warner Bros was founded by the four Warner brothers - Sam, Harry, Albert, and Jack Warner. Harry, Albert, and Sam went into the movie theatre business by acquiring a movie projector which they used to display movies in Ohio and Pennsylvania, which were mining towns then. They opened Cascade in Pennsylvania, their first theatre, in 1903. The following year, they founded Duquesne Amusement & Supply Chain in Pittsburgh in 1904. The purpose of this company was to distribute films. By the time the First World War started, the Warners had already ventured into movie production. In 1918, the Warner Brothers established the Warner Bros Studios on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Sam and Jack handled production, while Harry and Albert, along with other parties, took care of finance and distribution. In 1924, the company purchased Vitagraph Company, a nationwide film distributor. After the second world war, the company enjoyed great prosperity and made $19.4 million (£15.8 million) in 1946. In 1967, the company purchased DC Comics and made tremendous profits from television shows and movies built on The Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. In the 70s, Warner Bros. Records added Elektra Records and Atlantic Records to its ranks. In 2022, DC Studios became an independent division of Warner Bros.
