The UBS Story

UBS was founded in the year 1862  on 25th June, with its first building in Winterthur. It merged in 1912 with the Toggenburger Bank to form the Union Bank of Switzerland. and, as a result of various mergers, eventually became the Swiss Bank Corporation. The bank in its initial days had great insights and experience and relationships with other countries. The most notable was US brokerage firm PaineWebber, which forms the foundation for today’s UBS wealth management operations in America.

By the early 1970s, SBC and the Union Bank of Switzerland were represented on all continents, from Australia to East, Southeast Asia to South Africa, and across the Americas.

By the mid-1980s, Switzerland could boast of 581 banking institutions and employed about 100,000 people. Among these institutions are, SBC and the Union Bank of Switzerland. By 2022, the bank has celebrated its 160 years of legacy globally. UBS was the first bank to offer philanthropy services on a global basis to clients who are seeking ways to invest their wealth actively for the greater good.
