Size and Presence: Stripe recently moved to Canada, so it has a modest presence there. The company opened an office in Toronto, and its workforce is estimated to be in the hundreds. 

Best Known For: Stripe is best known as one of the foremost enablers of financial technology, which involves the virtual transfer of money from end to end. Stripe is used as the payment processing platform by many prestigious companies such as Etsy, Amazon, AliExpress, Apple, etc. This company is one of the fastest-growing fintech companies in the world. 

The Good Bits: Stripe has a relaxed and casual working environment. Its employees enjoy juicy perks and benefits in addition to basic compensation. The working culture is friendly.

The Stripe Story

Stripe came into existence in 2009 when a couple of siblings named Patrick and John Collison founded the company in Palo Alto, California. Two years after its inception, Stripe received funds worth $2 million (C$2.6 million) from several investors. In 2012, Stripe moved its base from Palo Alto to San- Francisco. In early 2013, Stripe acquired its first company, which was a chat and task-management brand named Kickoff. In early 2021, Mark Carney, the Bank of England's governor, was appointed to Stripe's board of directors. 

Later in 2022, Stripe purchased Recko, an accounting platform, to expand its catalogue of services. In early 2022, Stripe agreed to a partnership deal of 5 years with Ford Motors. This deal entailed that Stripe would handle transactions for vehicle reservations and orders. That same year, the firm entered into a partnership deal with Spotify to monetize creator's subscriptions, introduce continual income streams, and process payments. Twitter announced its intention to partner with Stripe to enable payouts in crypto for limited users. In April 2022, Stripe agreed to a strategic partnership with ION, a UK-based FinTech firm. Stripe began operating in Canada in 2012.
